I acquired this from a lady about 15 years ago who had no idea what it was and was carrying it in a pillow case, completely filthy ( the mandolin, not the pillow case).  At the time I did a bit of looking into it and was made to understand that there was another one out there, and was told they were made for the NAMM show in 1953, which makes sense as they appear to be cataloged in 1954.  I put it in an appropriate case that I had.

Year: ca. 1921
Notes:

Like so many of these Gibson mandocellos, this one had conspicuous top
sinkage. We had it rebraced and it is now a superb sounding and
playing instrument. At one point it was turned into a 6 string, but
the evidence of that is hard to see on the peghead.  The serial number
is illegible, but the original adjustable bridge and no truss rod
strongly indicate 1921.

I have had (and still do) more harp mandolins than anyone in their right mind, but this is the only harp mandola I have ever seen. It has a 14" scale and is, well, rather large. The pic with the Dyer shows its relative size. Great shape and works well.
